It’s not enough to be an ally at work or in our communities, we need to take real action through Allyship. Many people within companies and communities around the globe have allies. Loyal, smart and hardworking allies who stand by your side. I’ve always been an Ally so I know the role. However, after reflecting on the events over the past few weeks, I realize that I need to do more than just be an ally. I need to invoke an allyship that requires raw, real, and hard action to make change.
For far too long we have watched time and time again many unbelievable injustices across our land. As a person with white privilege, I get outraged by the injustices, yet I can’t truly relate to it. I can’t relate to it because I don’t have direct, up close, and real experience of blatant racism. I have certainly experienced forms of racism and sexism, but nothing compared to what the black community has endured. My message is simple, “This is not a moment in time, it’s a movement to reset.” Reset our attitudes, beliefs, biases, values, policies and behaviors. We need to Step Up and Stay Up!
